Shaheen Afridi Ruled Out of Asia Cup 2022 A Big Blow For Pakistan

Before the commencement of the Asia Cup, the Pakistan camp has received devastating news. Shaheen Shah Afridi, the Pakistan’s premier bowler, ruled out of Asia Cup 2022; due to a knee injury, the left-handed pacer will not participate in this year’s Asia Cup. He will be unable to participate in both the Asia Cup and the series against England.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) issued a statement confirming the news. Afridi may require a total of four to six weeks of rest. As a result, Babar Azam’s squad will embark on its Asia Cup mission without an essential player. In addition, he will not play for Pakistan in the September home series against England.

In the first Test of the Sri Lanka trip, Shaheen Shah Afridi suffered a right knee injury while fielding. And this injury still causes pain. A scan identified an issue with a ligament. The Sri Lankans’ opponents were unable to access the field after the first Test. Concerns were raised over his performance at the Asia Cup. In the end, this dread was realised. Which is a huge surprise for the Pakistani squad.

According to PCB’s medical staff, the recovery process is presently ongoing. However, healing will require time. Therefore, the process of rehabilitation will continue. A substitute for Afridi in the Asia Cup will be named shortly. Monday is when the Pakistan squad is slated to depart for the United Arab Emirates to compete in the competition.

It should be mentioned that the Asia Cup season will commence on August 27. And Pakistan’s first match will take place on August 28, the day after the competition begins. Pakistan will compete against its bitter foe India.
